I decided that I would post the first four written chapters of My Difference. This is the unedited, marked up, lazy version of it. (I will be posting an edited and completed version of the first four chapters later on hopefully.) I will be changing some minor things, because obviously she doesn't walk through the portal (like it is portrayed in the written version) she ends up being pulled in by the portal itself (which is depicted in the second page of the manga that I haven't posted yet... *clears throat*...) (。-_-。)
Also I didn't actually draw the prologue at all, and I don't exactly know if I want to to be honest. It all depends on what everyone thinks, and if I get feedback or not. Another thing is is that I am horrible at drawing 'old' people so the thought of drawing the prologue scares me a bit.(ノдヽ) If I do draw the prologue I plan on drawing it, inking it, and water color painting it verses leaving it black and white. Just to change things up a bit. Haha (●´∀`●)
Anyways enough of my babbling. The only reason I am posting this is to give a people a taste of what the manga itself is actually about. If you would like me to continue posting the written version along with the manga just leave me a comment and let me know. ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ (No seriously please leave me a comment, I am honestly begging you right now (´∩`。)....)
ANYWHO, enjoy! :)
My Difference
Prologue
Laughter
surrounded the school as Kereru left, summer was just beginning. The sound of
noisy cicadas surrounded the air, sweat rolled down her brow. The streets of
Japan were long and never ending, Kaeru walked towards a small row of old
houses and saw an old man rocking back and forth peacefully in his chair
listening to the melancholy sound of the birds. She read a sign on an old
rickety fence. “Sale”. She approached the man,
“Sumimasen, what
are you selling?”
The man stirred
and opened his eyes slowly. Kaeru smiled at the sight of him waking. He sat up
a bit and coughed, then began cackling.
“Young lady! So nice to have you here!
Here, have a look around.”
He waved his
hand towards a pile of junk in the corner of the fence line. She hesitated, but
walked in anyways. In the heap of junk there were old pots, ripped clothing,
lanterns, and many other miscellaneous items. Digging through it all piece by
piece she noticed something shining in the back of the pile. It was covered in
dust, she blew it off gently and picked it up. It was an old scythe with a
hazed over purple diamond that shimmer lightly. At the bottom of the staff was
a cloth handle that had the words saying ‘Ha no Sumire’. She stood up off the
dirt, and the old man started laughing again.
“ The blade of
violet ehh!?” He coughed from the dry dirt, “Good choice.”
Kaeru pulled out
1000 yen from her pocket and handed it to the man, she thanked him with a
smile, opened the gate and began to walk off, until the old man spoke in a
hushed tone,
“Young lady, I
have a small bit of advice for you.” He smiled with a concerned look “You can
open the gates to the world unknown in the ring of flowers, don’t be afraid,
and follow your heart.”
He waved his hand and shouted, “Sayonara!”
Kaeru smiled nervously and waved goodbye back. She set off back home.
The sun was
bright in the sky, and the temperature was just right. Kaeru thought to
herself, ‘What did he mean by that? Another world? He must just be crazy.” She
stepped into a puddle while deep in thought and swore to herself. The keys in
her pocket were cold as she fumbled to get them out. She dropped her bag at the
front entrance and kicked her shoes off. “I’m home!” Her voice echoed through
the house, no one was home. The stairs creaked as she walked up them. She
stopped in her tracks. “What if. . .” She ran up the stairs and flung her door
open. Clothes went flying as she threw it into an old softball duffle bag. She
changed out of her uniform grabbed a box of crackers and a few water bottles
and ran out the door heading to the park, with scythe in hand (wrapped in some
old cloth of course, it would be a bit strange to see a young girl running down
the street with a dangerous weapon), and her imagination running wild.
She walked through
the forest in search for a ring of flowers. There were trees, an abundance of
mosquitoes, but the flowers that the old man had spoken of were nowhere to be
found. She began to second guess herself.
“I must look
like an idiot walking around looking for this stupid circle of flowers. This is
a waste of time.”
She stopped
before she stepped on a small violet. She looked up, there was a ring of
flowers right in front of her. She smiled. No one was around, why not go for
it. She stood in the circle and held the scythe in both hands.
“One,” She
breathed in deeply and closed her eyes, “Two,” She swung the blade up in the
air, “Three,” she brought it back down into the flesh of the earth with a
crash.
Opening her eyes
she saw the tree’s moving awkwardly, it seemed as if she had cut into then and
opened up a portal to another dimension. She stepped back grabbing her bag and
putting it over her shoulder, her mysterious violet blade in hand, and gasped
at the swirling black hole she created. (Needs more

My Difference
Chapter 1
Sun shone into her eyes as she stepped
out of the opening. Her feet sunk into amber color sand, the sky was bright
blue. She squinted and looked around and gasped,
“Wow, it
actually worked! Awesome.”
The sand went on
for miles and miles and the sun was scorching hot. She looked back at the
portal,
“Weird…” She began walking out into the
sand, and as she walked she began to sweat worse and worse, “Man, it’s hot out
here, the temperature is totally different…”
She noticed a
dripping sound and looked down. Her water bottle was leaking and the cap was
halfway unscrewed, she growled,
“Awe, crap.” She
shook it violently and sighed, “Empty, wonderful.”
She crushed the water
bottle in her anger and made a fist.
“Why did I have
to be so stupid! Who leaves the lid on their water bottle unscrewed!? No one!”
She heard a loud
rustling noise and turned around suddenly. There was a gigantic creature that
had the body of a horse, head of a giant eagle and the tail of a monkey. It
pecked at her bag and scythe. Kaeru let out a blood curdling scream. The
creature grabbed her stuff and began running in the direction of a small group
of palm trees near the horizon. She screamed out of frustration,
“What the hell!?
Get back her you over grown fish cat… thing.”
She groaned and
began running after it in anger. The sun was setting fast and the creature
exceedingly swifter than her.
Meanwhile
the creature had made it to it’s destination in the palm trees. It stopped at
an abrupt halt in front of a man with red hair. The young man grabbed the
things from the creature’s mouth and plopped them on his lap. His back rested
against the palm trees as he rummaged through the bag.
“Finally something
to…Hey what the hell is this?! This isn’t food you dumb beast!”
He pulled out a pair of underwear
from the bag and grumbled. Kaeru had finally caught up to the creature, she
watched the red haired man digging through her bag and gasp,
“Why is he looking
through my stuff!? That stupid thing must have brought it here for him!”
She stood up and
brushed the sand off of her legs. Taking a deep breath she approached the man
and said, “Excuse me but you have my bag…”
Right when she spoke up the man
turned around and two blades came out of the top of his hand. A sudden rush of
air went past her. He tackled her and pushed her into the sand with the cold
blade up against her neck. Her heart rate sped up and her eyes began to water.
He whispered in a harsh tone,
“Don’t move.”
He blinked at
the sight of Kaeru’s shocked face. And leaned back a bit,
“You’ve got to be
kidding me!” He screamed, he sat up and got off of her, “I wasted all my energy
on a simple girl!?”
He sighed dramatically and the
blades disappeared back into the top of his hand. Kaeru’s face heated up and
her palms began to sweat. The veins in her neck began to protrude,
“A
girl? You jerk. How DARE you.”
She straightened
up her back in an attempt to make herself look more daunting. The red haired
man just smirked playfully at her remark,
“I’d rather
fight something that’s a threat to me instead of wasting my time on something
diminutive like you.”
She grumbled at
his response, when out of the blue a terrifying howl came from in the distance.
She gulped and slouched back into the sand as if to say, ‘Ok, you’ve made your
point.’ The mysterious man chuckled and sat up straight behind her,
“That scared you
didn’t it?”
Kaeru shiver a
bit and pulled her knees up to her chest in fright,
“Yea. I guess you
could say that.”
His laughing
ceased and he looked into her pink blue eyes with a vacant expression. A slight
breeze sailed by and as he spoke softly,
“Hey,” Kaeru
tensed up, she began to think that the moment of security was over, he spoke
again, “you’re not a Morian, or an Elf are you?”
Kaeru’s
expression went blank. She tilted her head to the side looked at him confused.
Her eyes twinkled in the late evening sun; the man became flustered at the
sight of it. Kaeru rummaged through her bag on a quest to find a sweatshirt.
After a moment of thinking she replied,
“I’m not an elf,
I’m a human.”
The man’s eyes
lit up, and he laid back down into the sand with a smile, Kaeru continued to
talk,
“I got here
using that blade,” She pulled a hat over her ears, “ I’m not sure how it all
worked out, but somehow I got here.”
She adjusted her
sock uneasily. A muffled chuckle broke the silence. She turned her head to look
at the man. The chill from the outside air mixed with his warm breath created a
small cloud that hovered above his lips, he inhaled groggily,
“Well, since
your human,” He chuckled, “I won’t have to kill you.”
The blood in
Kaeru’s veins froze. She backed away from him cautiously and looked at him
while trying to make sense of what he had just said to her. He sat up hastily
and waved his hand at her,
“No, no! Hey
calm down, you’re too appealing to kill anyway.”
The tint of red
on her cheeks became noticeable in the light of the fire. She looked down
without a reply. The man sat up and beckoned for her to come closer to him,
“Hey, come here
real quick.” He spoke softly.
She stared at
him, after her first frightening encounter with him earlier she didn’t want to
get on his bad side. So she did as she was told and came closer to him. He
looked into her eyes and grabbed her arm gently. Their icy breath intertwined,
he was only a few inches away from her face. She could feel his eyes on hers,
although she wasn’t making eye contact. She felt safe, but just as the moment
seemed to calm down his grip hardened around her forearm and he yanked her
towards himself. A piercing pain shot through her body as his nails cut through
her clothing and into the soft flesh of her arm. She let out a shriek and fell
to the ground in agony. Her eyes began to overfill with tears, she shook from
the shock of her own blood drenching her clothing,
“I-it burns,”
She gasped for air and sobbed. He smirked evilly, revealing a gleaming row of
sharp, rigid teeth, a sight that Kaeru had never laid eyes on. He laughed,
“Good.”
His laughter was
stopped by a rainfall of bullets plunging into the sand, causing a cloud full
of dust. He growled and leaped back with inhuman like speed. The shots stopped
and it grew quiet. As the dust began to settle there was a clear-cut silhouette
of a person. The enigmatic being stepped out of the dust and spoke,
“You can either
get away from the girl,” a swirl of bright blue light formed around the
individual’s hand, “or be shot to death.”
The being with the churning blue light
emerged from the cloud of dust. It was a young man with black hair that shone
with a purple tint; he had two noticeable large scars on his left cheek and
dark opal color eyes. A young red haired girl slid down from a nearby palm tree
with a smoking gun and a few bullets in between her smirking lips. She waved to
the demonic sharp toothed man and giggled,
“Hello Ranmaru,
I’m glad to see you’re causing trouble as usual.”
Ranmaru, the
mysterious red haired man tilted his head to the side. His green eye shone
brightly for a split second and he growled,
“Fine.”
He bounded up
into the air. Everyone held their breaths, and just as suddenly as he left, he
was back, with his arms wrapped tightly around Kaeru’s waist. The young red
haired girl whispered from between her teeth while readying her gun, preparing
to shoot him,
“Daichi, what is
he doing,”
The blue light
around Daichi’s hand blazed brighter, and he lunged forwards towards Ranmaru
and Kaeru, but before Daichi made it there, Ranmaru placed his lips against
Kaeru’s and bounded out of sight. Kaeru dropped to the cold sand; she was out
like a light. Daichi attempted to shoot Ranmaru, but it was too late. He was
gone. Daichi growled,
“Tama! Help me get her back to Kings
Town. She’s not moving.” Tama, helped Daichi pick up Kaeru and they set off
towards town. She sighed, “I hope Ms. Lightfeather will be able to help.”
They both walked off into the cold
dessert night, with an unknown journey ahead of them. EDIT (More detail)
My Difference
Chapter 2
Wisps of
colorful smoke filled the room, flower petals lay covering every surface. Kaeru
lay in bed breathing softly and quietly. A sudden breeze pushed a curtain
towards her covering her face. She gasps,
“Oh my god,”
Kaeru sat up in her sheets rapidly and winced, “Agh! My arm! Why the heck,” She
looked around cautiously with a blank expression, a twinge of pain struck
through her arm, “OW! Where the heck am I!?” A young girl, around the age of 13
heard an echo of screaming from downstairs, she smiled eagerly,
“She’s awake.”
She placed the
bouquet of flowers she was arranging onto the counter that was full of beads
and an assortment of colorful jars and vases. The stair case creaked under her
small feet and she climbed to her screaming patient’s room, she heard a sudden
thud. As she opened the door she found Kaeru upside down hanging off the side
of her bed. The freckle nosed girl smiled,
“Hello.”
Kaeru blushed,
she looked a bit ridiculous so she resituated herself on the floor, crossing
her legs in embarrassment,
“Hey,” said
Kaeru.
The young girl
got onto the floor and crawled up to her with curiosity, she reached for
Kaeru’s hair gingerly and looked at her with a bemused expression, she then
smiled,
“Let me do your
hair.”
Kaeru was taken
aback; she didn’t know how to reply, so she let the girl do as she wanted.
Kaeru’s long blonde hair was soft and wavy in the small hands of the amber eyed
girl. The incents filled the petite room, everything looked so unexplained and
magical in Kaeru’s eyes. The beads and vases, and the strange clothing hanging
from the wardrobe were all things that she had never seen before. Kaeru cleared
her throat uneasily and spoke,
“Why exactly are
you doing my hair?”
The young girl
chuckled and continued tying strings of beads into Kaeru’s hair,
“Well, I have to
take you shopping, and we don’t want people realizing that you’re, you know,”
She paused hesitantly and Kaeru cut in, “A human? People can’t know I’m a
human?”
The young girls
long brown braids bobbed up and down as she nodded her head in agreement. Kaeru
wrinkled her nose and spoke out,
“Well that’s
dumb, why can’t they know? It’s not like I’m a bad person.”
The girl
chuckled again; she finished up putting the last bead in Kaeru’s hair and
spoke,
“Oh I know
you’re not a bad person, believe me. We just don’t want anyone kidnapping you,
or even killing you, and we don’t want the Prince to find you either, ok?”
Kaeru stood up
and stretched, her arms and legs were sore, she frowned,
“I still don’t
understand why your people can’t know who I am? I don’t even know where I am
first of all, how do I know I’m not just dreaming this all up?”
Kaeru stretched
again, her arm panged and she grumbled, ‘Oh yea, that’s why I know I’m not
sleeping, because my arm is shredded to pieces.’ The brown haired girl walked
to the wardrobe and grabbed a few pairs of shoes, she smiled,
“Well, my
teacher Lila Lightfeather had a vision a few years back,” She handed a pair of
shoes to Kaeru, “she said that in five years, on the hottest day of the summer,
a human will come from the air,” The girl adjusted her sleeves, “and that human
from her prophecy would be the one to stop the war.”
Kaeru looked at
her dumbfounded, She thought to herself, ‘That’s impossible, how am I supposed
to stop a war?! I can’t even fire a weapon!’ Kaeru then turned to the girl in
confusion,
“Wait, who is
this war against?”
The freckled
face girl looked down forlornly and sighed,
“The war is
between the Elves and the Demons in the south,” She began to lead Kaeru through
a corridor and down a glowing glass staircase, she continued, “but we Morian’s
are siding with the Elves, so all in all everyone is involved in this stupid
fight.”
Kaeru nodded her
head, she still wasn’t quite grasping what exactly this was all about, and then
it hit her. How in the world was she going to get home? She shook it off and
spoke once again,
“Wait, what was
your name again?”
The girl turned
around and smiled, she was noticeably shorter than Kaeru. The girl chuckled,
“Oops, I guess I
forgot to even tell you my name,” She extended her hand out towards Kaeru, “my
name is Yolei, but you can just call me Yo,” She handed a strange looking
jacket to Kaeru, “put this on, it’s going to be chilly outside.”
Kaeru hesitantly
grabbed the jacket and slid it on, her eyebrows scrunched together as she
thought, ‘I almost burned to death yesterday, how can it be so chilly?’ Yolei
and Kaeru walked out into the bustling street, people with skin colors and ears
that she had never seen before were hustling past her. Kaeru stared intensely
at a blue skinned man, which appeared to have fins on his arms and gills on his
neck. He glanced back at her, his gold eyes piercing into hers. Yolei shook her
arm and spoke through her teeth,
“Kaeru, you
can’t just be staring at people like that, someone is going to notice that you
aren’t from here,” They walked around a crate of strange looking fruit and
proceeded down the street, Yolei spoke again, “ Please be more cautious Kaeru,
and if anyone asks you’re my cousin coming here to visit me from the southern
province of Urein, ok?”
Kaeru nodded her
head. She stared expressionlessly at everything around her. The people, the
fruit, even the plants looked so different form the ones that she knew so well
back in her world. Kaeru bumped into a plastic bin full of swimming fish. They
were glowing bright blues and purples and had strange tentacle like things
coming off of their tails, Kaeru stared at them in awe. Her focus was torn away
from them when Yolei spoke,
“Ok, we need to
get you looking like a Morian,” She glanced at some shops and nodded her head
at them disapprovingly, and then her eye’s caught a large store across the
street. Stained glass covered the front wall from head to toe, and there were
vines covering the elegant building. Yolei smiled,
“Let’s go here,
my friend Aijin owns this store, I’m sure she would be willing to help us out
if I explained to her what was going on.” They darted across the street in the
direction of the store. Kaeru looked up at the sign as she walked in and then
realized that she couldn’t read it. They’re alphabet was different here. The
bell on the door rung as it opened. Bright glowing lights flew past them and
then settled, the lights acted as if they were alive. People, if that’s what
you would like to call them, were quietly conversing with one another. Kaeru
shuffled behind Yolei, afraid to lose her. She looked up, the ceiling seemed
never ending and the glass dome above them seemed to glow and sparkle. A
butterfly caught her eye, it fluttered by carelessly. It was odd looking, there
were small tails floating off of its abdomen and it seemed to be glowing like a
lightning bug. All of a sudden she heard a hiss down by her foot, and a little
green creature, which looked like a salamander sat on the floor staring back up
at her. Kaeru backed up, she stuck her tongue out at it, and he returned her
gesture and crawled away. She sighed in relief, then she noticed Yolei calling
her name and beckoning to her. She set off towards her, making sure she didn’t
step on any other strange creatures. Yolei smiled,
“This is Aijin,”
she held her hand out to a girl, who seemed to be even younger than Yolei
herself. Kaeru looked at Aijin, and then back to Yolei in disbelief. That was
Aijin? She looked to be only ten or so! Yolei cleared her throat and continued,
“Ai designs the clothes in this store, and she runs it too. She agreed to let
you pick out a few items of your choice.”
Kaeru nodded her
head slowly still staring at Aijin, her hair was black and in long, thick, pig
tails and her eyes were a bright green. She had strange purple glitters around
the bottom of her eyes. The oddest thing about her was the fact that she was
wearing bunny ears. Aijin caught Kaeru staring at her, she stood up and looked
Kaeru in the eyes. She didn’t smile, she kept a blank expression and spoke
almost in a faint whisper,
“I heard you
need a bit of,” she paused for a moment, “help, am I correct?”
Kaeru nodded her
head and gulped timidly, Aijin walked up to Kaeru and tilted her head to the
side, she spoke again,
“You’re not from
here are you?”
Kaeru gulped,
she could feel herself sweating. A few people in the store turned to look at
them. Then the bell on the door to the entrance of the store rang and everyone
grew quiet. A tall man, probably in his twenties walked into the store. His
dirty blonde hair was pulled back into a pony tail, and he was wearing a clean
cut uniform. You could almost assume he was a cop of some sort. Yolei gasped
and began to sweat. The man noticed her and walked over. Kaeru looked down and
pretended she didn’t see him as he approached them. He stopped and looked down
at them,
“My name is
Vayne, I’m a General for the King’s Town Royal army,” He glanced down at Kaeru,
“and I believe you have something I need.” Yolei stuttered, but she couldn’t
manage to get anything out of her mouth, and Aijin just stared at him quietly,
Vayne spoke again, but this time he was talking to Kaeru, “Human, you’re under
arrest.”
He pulled out
his sword and looked around the room and then he focused himself back to Kaeru.
“Hopefully you
will cooperate.”
Yolei
face-palmed herself and started swearing quietly. Kaeru nodded her head in
reply to the man’s request. Vayne quietly slid his sword back into its scabbard
and glared at Yolei and Aijin,
“If I catch
either of you two nosing around anywhere near the castle you will be arrested
immediately.”
Kaeru looked
towards the door and thought to herself,
“Maybe I could
make a run for it.”
Vayne turned
swiftly towards Kaeru and glared at her, she gulped and backed up a bit. He
growled,
“Don’t even
think about it.”
Kaeru looked at
him with a stunned expression. How did he know what she was thinking? He
motioned for Kaeru to follow him and they walked toward the door quietly, no
one talked, no one even moved. Until Yolei spoke up,
“Wait!”
Vayne turned
around and adjusted his glasses. His orange brown eye stared into Yolei’s soul.
He waited for her to speak. She stuttered,
“She wouldn’t
happen to be meeting Prince Raiden would she?”
He nodded,
“That’s exactly
what she’s doing,” He nodded towards her and walked out the door with Kaeru,
“have a good day.”
Yolei froze. She
felt her palms warming up and her heart began to race. She thought to herself,
‘Daichi is absolutely going to kill me.’ She looked to Aijin and frowned. What
was going to happen?
My Difference
Chapter 3
Vayne sat in the carriage quietly, his
eyes were glued to Kaeru. The clicking of the wheels on the gravel road filled
the air. They were going up, since Kings Town was located on a mountain. The
castle was located in the middle of the mountain, and above it were temples and
military training ranges. Kaeru shifted her weight in her chair and sighed
angrily. Vayne was still watching her, and it was irritating Kaeru to death,
finally she spoke,
“Honestly, what
are you looking at?!” He didn’t reply, he didn’t even move. Kaeru grumbled and
stood up, she yelled, “Stop! You’ve been staring at me for,-”
Just as she
yelled the carriage hit a bump in the road which in turn caused her to fall
right onto the floor. Vayne chuckled to himself, and kept staring at her
intently. He spoke with a hint of sarcasm in his voice,
“Twenty
minutes.”
Kaeru grumbled
and rubbed her back, the carriage began to slow down and she sighed,
“I hate this,
just so you know.”
Vayne stood up,
ignoring her comment and waited for the carriage to come to a halt. When it
finally stopped the door opened and Vayne stepped out, Kaeru clumsily got up
off of the floor and stepped towards the door. A hand and a smiling face
greeted her. A young man with sharp blue eyes and short black hair helped her
out of the carriage.
He smiled,
“ It’s wonderful
to finally be able to see you Miss.”
Kaeru looked around in puzzlement. She
thought she was going to jail, why was she being treated so courteously? She felt
a drop of water plop onto her cheek and looked up and noticed that it was about
to rain. A young maid with blue, almost grey hair and strange makeup smiled at
her,
“Here is an
umbrella for you Miss Kaeru.”
Kaeru looked at
the maid with a confounded expression and coyly took the umbrella from her
glove covered hands. Another maid approached her and gave her a silk
handkerchief, Kaeru took it, although she didn’t understand why she was being
offered it in the first place. She wondered why she was being treated like
royalty. The way Yolei had made it out to be, the Prince was a bad person, but
this didn’t seem to be the case. As she was being given gifts by the maids,
General Vayne walked away with the young blue eyed soldier, he seemed to be
giving him orders, but Kaeru couldn’t only make out half of what he was saying.
She stared blankly at them until she heard the sound of high heels approaching
her. Kaeru turned to see a young woman with baby blue hair and almost white
eyes. The woman had an assortment of pink ribbons and beads throughout her
hair, she wore a pink maids out fit and an odd looking hair pin. Kaeru didn’t
notice her eye patch until she spoke to her,
“Hello Miss
Kaeru, my name is Verice and you’ll be coming with me.”
Verice looked at
the other maids and motioned with her head for them to leave, but they stayed
put. Kaeru stared at the woman in awe, the way she was dressed reminded her of
the Ganguro and Decora girls back in Japan. Verice took a deep breath and
smiled. Then she laughed and grabbed Kaeru’s hands, Verice’s eyes beamed,
“I’m going to
give you a totally rad makeover and get you out of this drab clothes so you can
finally meet the amazing and totally handsome Prince Raiden!”
She smiled and
drug Kaeru down the road towards the castle garden. The other maids continued
to follow them, with their creepy smiles plastered to their faces. Kaeru looked
back and shivered, their faces must be permanently stuck that way. Verice
continued talking about how amazing Prince Raiden was until the two of them
were far enough from the maids. Then Verice exhaled dramatically and looked
over to Kaeru,
“Sorry about
that creepy performance I gave back there,” Verice glared back at the other
maids, “you see, I’m paid to be creepy and perky around the military officers,”
she motioned back at the group of maids that were still following them, “but
sadly, these girls are naturally that way. Poor things. They must have strong
cheek bones to be able to smile like that all day.” She laughed.
Kaeru stopped in
her tracks. In the air above her was another one of those glowing butterflies,
like the ones that were in Aijin’s shop. It fluttered above her face and glowed
a bright yellow color. She stared at it in amazement. Verice smiled,
“Aren’t they
pretty? It’s said that the goddess bugs only flock around special people,
people that are going to make a change in the world,” she chuckled again, “but
that’s just a myth. For some reason though they do love fluttering around the
castle a lot.”
They both gazed
at the goddess bugs. They seemed so carefree and happy. The silence was broken
by a shout,
“Verice!
Verice!”
They both looked
over to see a short, pink haired maid. She was running towards them and
shouting. Kaeru noticed that she had two eye colors, blue and orange, they
stuck out like a slap in the face. The girl stopped abruptly before running
into the two. Verice sighed,
“What is it
Bionca, why are you making such a big scene?”
The girl with
the peculiar eyes bent over heaving and looked back up trying to catch her breath.
She spoke,
“Prince Raiden
wants to see Miss Kaeru,” she gasped for air, the little puff balls in her hair
wavered as she tried to regain her composure, she continued, “right now, in the
main dining hall. It’s an order.” Bionca clutched her side and wheezed for more
air. Verice glowered at her and once again exhaled dramatically,
“Can’t he just
wait for like, five minutes? His highness doesn’t have to be in such a hurry,
it’s not like she’s going anywhe-.”
Just as Verice
was about to finish her sentence Bionca grabbed Kaeru’s arm and began running
down the walkway to a back entrance of the castle. Verice hollered,
“Hey! What the
hell. Bionca!”
She stuck out
her bottom lip and pouted,
“How rude.”
Bionca was
running as fast as she could with Kaeru right behind her, but when she stopped
at the door Kaeru smashed into her from behind. The two girls fell inelegantly
through the door and right onto the floor. Bionca groaned, Kaeru looked up, she
was on top of Bionca. She chuckled,
“Nice place
you’ve got here.”
Bionca grumbled
and struggled to get up. Once they were off of their butts and back on their
feet Kaeru noticed an officer, the same blue eyed man that helped Kaeru out of
the carriage from earlier. He chuckled,
“You two look
like you could use some help.” Bionca’s face flushed a deep red and she yelped
at the sight of him,
“Hans!”
He continued to
laugh as Bionca awkwardly wiped the dust off of her uniform, he spoke again,
“Prince Raiden
sent you to get her an hour ago. Are you ok?”
Bionca nodded
her head embarrassedly and apologized for being so late. Hans motioned for them
to follow him,
“We should
probably get a move on, there are Demons in the facility so I have to escort
you two there.” He smiled and flashed his white teeth. They followed him in
return.
Meanwhile,
Daichi was beating up on Yolei back in town,
“They took her?!
How the hell did you let her get taken away?!”
Daichi was
infuriated, he yanked on Yolei’s braid’s repeatedly out of rage, she whined in
protest,
“I’m sorry! He
was a Guard for Raiden’s military I couldn’t just say no!”
She pouted and
wiped her eyes. Daichi growled and threw his hands into the air in rage, his
face began to turn red,
“Well then how
the hell are we going to get into the castle! They are obviously going to be on
a look out for you and Ai!”
Yolei looked
around frantically trying to think of a way to fix the mess that she had
created. The only thing that she noticed was an empty flower cart attached to a
horse-like creature. She sniffled and pointed to it, hoping not to get smacked
again. Daichi looked at the cart then back at Yolei, and then finally back to
the cart, he grumbled, grabbed Yolei by the collar of her jacket and drug her
over to it. He climbed in first and forced Yolei to get in too, they waited for
someone to show up, and after a few minutes of anticipating, the owner showed
up. She looked at them with a muddled expression, Yolei sniffled. Daichi then
spoke out,
“My friend here
has a mental illness thing goin’ on and she can’t walk without falling on her face.
I have to watch her to make sure she doesn’t bite her tongue off, and we really
need a ride to the castle grounds.”
The owner of the
cart looked around apprehensively, she had the slightest idea what to do. Just
as the woman was about to open her mouth Daichi heard a familiar voice calling
out to them. He turned his head and saw Tama and Ai on the back of a large hay
cart, heading in the opposite direction. Tama, Daichi’s cousin yelled with a
big grin,
“Hey! You guys
better jump on fast! Or you’re out of luck!”
Yolei jumped out
of the flower cart and chased after the hay wagon, Daichi stood in the street
with his mouth open. Then he finally snapped out of it and yelled,
“Hey, hold up a
sec! Wait!”
He chased after Yolei and the cart.
Somehow they were going to make it into the castle, but the question was, how
were they going to make it out?

Chapter 4
Ranmaru paced
back and forth in the basement of the Demon palace. He had a smirk playing at
his lips. The candles hanging on the wall flickered back and forth as he walked
in circles. A voice cut him off.
“Ranmaru.”
He paused in his
tracks and looked over his shoulder to see Ogai, a toned, shirtless, yellow/red
eyed demon, he had a scar on his chest and the tips of his brown hair were
bleach blonde. Ranmaru chuckled,
“Don’t worry
Ogai, I’ve made sure Lila can’t get to the human girl until it’s too late.
She’s ours.”
He laughed to
himself evilly and slid down onto the floor against a wall. Ogai was ill at
ease. He lashed out at Ranmaru’s response,
“You’d better be
sure there is no cure for this, because if-.”
Ranmaru cut him
off with a chuckle and crossed his arms. His bright green eyes flickered
malevolently in the light of the candles. He began pacing again and smirked,
“The only known
cure has been extinct, as far as I know, for 100 years or more. You don’t have
to worry Ogai,” He flashed his sharp teeth at him, “I have it under control.”
Ogai
exhaled and rubbed his temples,
“You had better
hope so Ranmaru..”
Ranmaru
stared into the quivering light of the candle and smirked, he thought to
himself, ‘She’ll be feeling the effects soon. Soon she’ll be ours. No. Mine.”
A trail of trickling water slid
down the basement walls, Ranmaru and Ogai set off down the tunnel.
Back
at the castle Hans was escorting Kaeru to Prince Raiden’s dining hall.
